In August MSPP director, Terri Cranmer traveled to Guatemala with two members of the MSPP Engineering Advisory Committee, Roy Wall and Tyler Bick. The purpose of the trip was to assess the repairs needed for the primary school in Virginia. After meeting with the school board, taking lots of measurements and photos the engineers began the task of designing preliminary sketches for the repairs to the existing school. The final drawing s will be created by students at Southeastern Community College in Iowa, (SCCIOWA). This provides students who are unable to travel to Guatemala with the opportunity to provide global support. The actual repairs will be done by members of MSPP engineering committee, students from SCCIOWA and Westminster College in Iowa as well as members of the community. Repairs will be made in May 2017.
While on this trip we also discussed the addition of three classrooms and bathrooms. This project is expected to be implemented in 2018.
